Steampunk Photoshoot

I went to a Steampunk shoot this weekend, with models dressed in several different themed outfits. The location was at a warehouse, so there were a few nice locations that could be used. While most of the other photographers took their shots inside, I thought the outside had more interesting settings. There was a rusted metal ramp, some corrugated metal walls, and even a storage area with a broken machine draped in tubes and wires (plus there was more room to move my light around outside).

I wasn’t able to shoot all of the models present, but the ones I did have an opportunity to work with were very nice. Sarah had an impressive collection of gears in her hair, while Aly had a really colorful corset. Crystal wore a long flowing dress and Tamara had a really eye-catching black and white outfit which contrasted really nice with one of the white metal walls.

Even though I didn’t have a chance to take as many pictures as I’d hoped, it was still a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to the next themed shoot.

E3 2013

I attended E3 this week, my first time ever attending! It took place at the LA Convention Center, and although there were a lot of people there, it didn’t feel quite as crowded as other conventions I’ve been to. There was still a ton to see though, and since there exhibitors in both the West and South Halls, a lot of walking around.

Most of the indoor halls were very dimly lit though, and although I’d brought my 580EX II, a lot of my pictures didn’t have the best lighting. Just one of the challenges of photography at events like this though.

Many of the booths had a lot to display, and several had models too, so I had plenty to take pictures of. Ubisoft even had several zombies behind a fence, which was pretty neat. The Titanfall statue was especially impressive, it had a moving head and everything. I even ran across Felicia Day and Jessica Nigri.

WonderCon 2013

Attended WonderCon 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center on Friday and Saturday. I’ve previously gone to the San Diego Comic-Cons before, although I usually took pictures of the crowds and various booths rather than of individual people.

This time I tried to make more of an effort to get photos of the different cosplayers and their costumes. I still felt a little odd asking to take people’s pictures but it wasn’t as awkward as I’d feared once I started doing it. Didn’t get as many as I’d hoped but it was still a good start. Some of the details on some of them were amazing. I can’t imagine how much work had to go into several of the costumes I saw. I’m certainly looking forward to next year.

I think I really like taking pictures of cosplayers, especially with the way they get into character when posing.

Ohh, and I also attended a couple panels, like the one for Superman Unbound. Managed to get a couple pictures of the voice actors: Matt Bomer and Molly C. Quinn.
