JS, Lychii, Mika, and Usagiko at ALA 2014

During ALA I ran into a few cosplayers I hadn’t seen before, and did a few quick mini-shoots with them (except for Lychii, who’d I contacted ahead of time to do a shoot of her Princess Hilda).

With JS and Lychii, I was able to bring out my Einstein light and play with a few different angles. The scythe was a bit of challenge to fit in the frame, but I really like how the shots came out. With Lychii’s Hilda shoot, I think I should have tried to get more of the background lighting in. The area had some hanging lanterns that would’ve made for a more interesting backdrop, but they were really dim, so it would’ve been a challenge to balance with the fill light.

I came across Mika, Twerkette and Usagiko at the hotel’s pool area, so I only had my flash to work with, but I think I still managed to work with that and get good shots. Although my flash did run out of batteries mid-shoot with Usagiko, so that was a little embarrassing. Good thing I’d brought spares.
